JOM FAMILY FUN DAY
The JOM Family Fun Day was on May 10, 2008. There were several JOM students that showed up for this event. The students that showed up received a small plaque that showed how much we appreciate them for all the hard work that they do in school. There were games that were setup for the kids to play and then the staff all joined in with a game of Red Rover and Musical Chairs. It was a time for all the students to just have fun. This is something that we want to do every year if the funding is available. There has been very little parent participation so we would like to invite all the JOM parents to the meetings they are held the second Tuesday of every month, and are always in the education building. For any information please contact April Carson 1-888-336-4692 ext 260. |
JOM SENIOR BANQUET
The JOM committee wanted to recognize all the JOM seniors and wanted to do something nice for all of them. There was a banquet held at Freddie Paul's in Stillwater May 10 at 7:00p.m. There were a total of 3 seniors who showed, but all the seniors that were in the JOM program received a Pendleton blanket. The blankets were presented to them by the Tribal Chairman Christie Modlin. The JOM committee wanted to show the students that there work didn't go unnoticed and that graduating is a very important thing for Native American Students. |
TRIBAL YOUTH AWARDS
The Business Committee recognizes the Iowa Tribal Youth every year in May. The Business Committee realizes that every student doesn't make the honor roll so this gives the parents a chance to write in what accomplishments there child has throughout the school year. Every year there is a guest speaker who talks to the kids about education and this year the speaker was Dr. Robert Fields of the Iowa, Otoe, and Pawnee tribes. Dr. Fields spoke about the struggles of school but he explained that without an education it would be hard to get the job that you want. All the tribal youth sat listened as he went over the years of his schooling. All the tribal youth were presented with a certificate of the accomplishments for the school year. Christie Modlin Tribal Chairman and Judith Shores Tribal Treasurer presented the students with their certificates. |
