Integrated Resource Management Plan

Integrated Resource Management Plan (IRMP)

The Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma developed an Integrated Resource Management Plan (IRMP) through funding from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The IRMP is a strategic, vision-based, long-range management plan based on tribal member’s interests, needs, and concerns for their lands and natural resources.

The Tribe’s IRMP contains both historical and current information on environmental programs and land management activities and also includes recommendations for future community developments. The IRMP provides the Business Committee and tribal resource managers a clear direction for managing natural and cultural resources such that they are available for future Ioway generations.

The Iowa Tribe’s IRMP document contains seven chapters:
Chapter 1. Introduction
Chapter 2. The Ioways
Chapter 3. Resource Management Philosophy & IRMP Format
Chapter 4. Tribal Resources and Management Plans
Chapter 5. Iowa Tribe Departmental Resources
Chapter 6. Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation
Chapter 7. IRMP Contributors

The IRMP was completed in December 2007 and can be viewed at the Iowa Tribe Library or at the Office of Environmental Services.

Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma's Wildlife Conservation Area (ITOWCA) Management Plan

Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma's Wildlife Conservation Area (ITOWCA) Management Plan

The Office of Environmental Services (OES) received FY08 funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services - Tribal Wildlife Grant Program to develop a comprehensive management plan for the Iowa Tribe’s Wildlife Conservation Area (ITOWCA).

There are several natural and cultural resources in the ITOWCA that are important to the Ioways, including the native grasses, bison herd, wetland, and the eagle rehabilitation facility. The Iowa Tribe’s primary goals for the conservation area are to restore and protect the prairie ecosystem and to protect and properly manage the other natural and cultural resources such that they are sustainable and available for future Ioways. The development of the ITOWCA management plan will guide the Tribe with restoring the native prairie using bison and other land management activities while also ensuring the protection and management of wildlife and wildlife habitats in the conservation area.

The ITOWCA management plan contains the following eight chapters:
Chapter 1. Introduction
Chapter 2. The ITOWCA Environment
Chapter 3. Understanding Grasses
Chapter 4. Range and Wildlife Management Practices
Chapter 5. ITOWCA Restoration and Management
Chapter 6. Recommended Management Guidelines
Chapter 7. Guiding Principles and Program Evaluation
Chapter 8. Literature Cited

The ITOWCA management plan was completed in December 2009 and is available for viewing at the OES.
