Realty

All Tribal land records are held by the Realty subdivision which assists in purchasing fee to trust lands, oil and gas leases, farming and grazing leases, sales/purchase/partition of lands, land surveys, probates, wills, gift deeds, and right-of-way. The office is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and retention of all records associated with realty matters.

The Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma land base is comprised of three land category types. These are summarized below:

Iowa Tribal Land Status
Tribally owned 470 acres
Trust land 185 acres
Allotted land 1810 acres
Total 2465 acres

Tribally owned land is land acquired by the tribe but is not held in trust by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Trust land is land that has achieved trust status. Allotted land is land that individual tribal members were given historically. Fee land is any land that is not held in trust by the United States of America. The land is on state and local government tax rolls and is assessed a tax based on the appraisal value of the land. Trust land that is held in trust is not subject to taxes. Fee land is transferred from owner to buyer by deed usually with a title and abstract review by the title company handling the transfer. Fee to Trust acquisitions must meet guidelines and are subject approval by the BIA Regional Director. These acquisitions usually are taking a considerable amount of time to be processed and approved. Please reference the map on the following page for the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma trust and fee land designations.
