Child Protection Services

Child Protection Services is the frontline agency of the tribes child abuse and neglect prevention. The Child Protection Services (CPS) worker is primarily responsible for ensuring that investigation, removal and emergency placement services are available to children and their families.

The Tribal CPS worker is mandated to investigate child abuse and neglect on trust and restricted land. Child Protection Service workers are responsible for providing services, assessing appropriate pre-placement for Indian Children, contracting for services to enhance CPS services to meet the needs of clients (referrals, advocacy, networking, collaboration, communication).

Mission: To protect the best interest of Indian children and to promote the stability and security of Indian tribes and families by implementing the requirements established under the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act: Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and appropriate Tribal customs, codes, law and policy.
